The GSMS PhD Council is in constant contact with the following organisations and councils to ensure that PhD students within the GSMS are offered the most relevant events and information and their opinions are represented.

GOPHER & GRIN

Groningen Organisation for PhD Education and Recreation (Gopher) is an organisation for all RUG PhDs that organize educational and recreational activities.

We help PhD students to develop themselves, to network and to get to know fellow PhD students through educational and recreational events. If you wish to get involved or just join the events, please contact the GOPHER board or join the GOPHER Facebook group for more information.

The Groningen Graduate Interest Network (GRIN) represents and defends the interests of all PhDs of the University of Groningen.

GRIN empowers PhD councils and PhD students to function at their best. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us, by sending an email or find more information on our website.

Promovendi Netwerk Nederland (PNN)

The PhD Network Netherlands (PNN) is the national interest group for and by PhD students/researchers affiliated to one of the fourteen Dutch universities, or one of the eight Academic Medical Centers, or one of the five research institutions. PNN advocates for the rights of PhD students/researchers. More information can be found on their website.

PNN Landelijk Overleg UMC Promovendi (LOUP)

A sub-branch of the PNN is the Landelijk Overleg UMC Promovendi (in English: the National Organization UMC PhD Candidates).

Although universities are the most obvious institutes for doing a PhD, a large proportion of Dutch PhD candidates are working at a University Medical Center (UMC). PhD candidates at UMCs adhere to other regulations than their colleagues pursuing their dissertation at a university. Therefore some themes and issues are unique to UMC PhD trajectories.

This council meets bi-monthly and aims to advocate for UMC PhD rights. More information can be found on their website.
